HUMO and Alipay+ Enable Global Payments Connectivity for Merchants Across Uzbekistan

Businesses is Uzbekistan can now accept cross-border QR payments from international consumers, building on earlier partnership to enable local consumers to pay globally

27 August 2026, Tashkent - During the Silk Road Finance & Technology Forum 2026, supported by the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Uzbekistan’s National Payment System HUMO and Alipay+, Ant International’s unified wallet gateway, announced the launch of Alipay+ on HUMO’s payment infrastructure, connecting the local payments systems to global commerce opportunities.

The launch ceremony was attended by Nodirbek Saydullayev, First Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan; Peng Yang, Chief Executive Officer of Ant International; and Alexander Sotnikov, Chairman of the Management Board of HUMO.

Users of international e-wallets and banking applications connected to Alipay+ can now make QR payments in Uzbekistan, while local merchants can reach international visitors with no additional set up, expanding opportunities to reach new customers with the increase in tourism and commerce flows into the country. The ability to pay using a familiar application, without having to switch to a new payment instrument, removes one of the barriers faced by travellers and makes the country’s payment infrastructure more accessible to international visitors.

The cooperation between Alipay+ and HUMO, since October 2025, initially enabled HUMO cardholders to make payments outside Uzbekistan through their familiar banking applications, across Alipay+’s global merchant ecosystem. The partnership now expands to include users of Alipay+’s international partner wallets, who can make purchases in Uzbekistan through HUMO’s payment infrastructure.

“The modern payments market can no longer be viewed solely within national borders. People travel, businesses enter new markets, and trade and tourism flows between countries continue to grow — and payment infrastructure must evolve accordingly. For HUMO, international interoperability is becoming one of our key areas of development. Our goal is to make modern payment capabilities more accessible both to citizens of Uzbekistan travelling abroad and to visitors to our country,” said Alexander Sotnikov, Chairman of the Management Board of HUMO.

For Uzbekistan, the project has broader significance in terms of unlocking an exciting phase of digital transformation and tourism potential. By bridging global digital payment ecosystem with Uzbekistan’s local payment infrastructure, HUMO and Alipay+ are helping create a more open and accessible digital economy — empowering businesses, welcoming international travellers and supporting the country’s ambition to become a leading hub for innovation, tourism and commerce in the region.

“Digital connectivity is a powerful catalyst for economic growth, enabling countries to welcome more visitors, empower businesses and participate more fully in the global economy. Through our collaboration with HUMO, Alipay+ is helping bridge Uzbekistan’s digital payment ecosystem with the world, supporting the country’s ambitions to accelerate digital transformation, strengthen financial inclusion and unlock new opportunities for businesses and consumers,” said Leiming Chen, Senior Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer of Ant International.

Alipay+ currently connects over 2 billion user accounts and from over 50 digital wallets and banking applications, to more than 150 million merchants across over 220 markets, including through10 national payment schemes.

The launch of the new phase of cooperation between HUMO and Alipay+ reflects the broader integration of Uzbekistan’s payment infrastructure into the international financial and technology ecosystem. For HUMO, advancing international interoperability is an important part of expanding the capabilities of the national payment system and creating new payment scenarios both for international visitors to Uzbekistan and for HUMO cardholders outside the country.
