HUMO and NPCI International Discuss Next Steps for Cross-Border QR Payments Between Uzbekistan and India

HUMO and NPCI International are moving to the next stage of developing cross-border QR payments between Uzbekistan and India. During Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai, the parties discussed practical steps towards implementing the agreement signed on August 27.

Uzbekistan and India's payment ecosystems are taking a further step towards greater digital connectivity. During Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai, a HUMO delegation held working meetings with the leadership of NPCI International, where the parties discussed the next steps in implementing the agreement on the development of cross-border QR payments agreement signed on August 27, 2026.

The initiative involves connecting the payment capabilities of the two countries through UZQR, Uzbekistan's unified national QR payment system, and India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI), the world's largest real-time payment system by transaction volume.

Once the project is implemented, Indian tourists visiting Uzbekistan will no longer need to look for a separate payment solution for everyday purchases. Using their familiar UPI-enabled app, customers will be able to scan a merchant's UZQR code and complete the payment.

For businesses, this will enable them to accept payments from Indian travellers, eliminating the need for customers to use cash or seek alternative payment methods.

The partnership is particularly relevant amid growing tourism, business and economic ties between Uzbekistan and India. Cross-border digital payments provide additional infrastructure to support the freer movement of people and funds between the two countries.

The agreement between HUMO and NPCI International was signed on August 27, 2026. The working meetings in Mumbai marked the next stage of cooperation between the parties following the signing.

During the meetings, representatives of HUMO and NPCI International discussed the practical aspects of implementing the project, further development of international QR payments, and the next steps towards connecting the payment infrastructures of the two countries.

For HUMO, advancing international payment connectivity is one of its strategic priorities. The company continues to expand cooperation with international payment systems and technology partners, developing infrastructure that enables Uzbekistan's national payment system to integrate with the global digital economy.

HUMO's participation in Global Fintech Fest 2026 provided a platform not only to continue dialogue with NPCI International, but also to establish connections with leading representatives of the global fintech industry to discuss the development of digital payments, international interoperability, and new opportunities for users and businesses.

The partnership between HUMO and NPCI International lays the foundation for a more convenient digital payment environment between Uzbekistan and India. In the long term, the development of such solutions can enhance convenience for tourists, support cross-border trade, and strengthen business and economic ties between the two countries.
