HUMO and Kazakhstan's National Payment Corporation to Develop Cross-Border QR Payments and Transfers

On September 11, in Almaty, as part of the Central Asia Fintech Summit 2026, the National Payment System HUMO and JSC National Payment Corporation of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Partnership.

The Memorandum establishes a framework for cooperation between the payment infrastructures of the two countries and the development of new cross-border payment services.

One of the key areas of cooperation will be the mutual acceptance of Uzbekistan's and Kazakhstan's national QR codes. This will enable citizens of Uzbekistan to pay for goods and services in Kazakhstan using Kazakhstan's national QR code, while citizens of Kazakhstan will be able to make payments in Uzbekistan through the unified national UzQR system.

Another area of cooperation will be the development of cross-border transfers between users in the two countries. The parties plan to enable users to make transfers through their existing mobile banking applications in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to recipients' cards in the other country.

“Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have close economic and people-to-people ties, making the ability to make familiar payments and transfers between our countries increasingly important. Our task is to create the technological conditions that will make payment services convenient and secure for users, while ensuring interoperability at the level of national infrastructures. This Memorandum is the first step toward the practical development of such solutions,” said Zhanar Samayeva, Chairwoman of the Management Board of the National Payment Corporation.

Thus, the cooperation between HUMO and Kazakhstan's National Payment Corporation is aimed at creating the technological foundation for more convenient cross-border payments and transfers for individuals and businesses in both countries.

“Cooperation between HUMO and Kazakhstan's National Payment Corporation opens up new opportunities for the development of modern payment services between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. The implementation of mutual acceptance of national QR codes will allow citizens of both countries to pay for goods and services in a familiar way, while the development of cross-border transfers will make financial transactions between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan even more accessible and convenient. For HUMO, this project is an important step in advancing cross-border payment solutions and strengthening financial integration in Central Asia,” said Alexander Sotnikov, Chairman of the Management Board of HUMO.

Under the Memorandum, the parties also plan to develop information and technology exchange, share expertise, and explore other areas of cooperation in payment technologies.
